今日の英語記事では、我が母国で使われている独特な言葉（スラング）ついて簡単な英語で紹介します。1回記事を読んでみて、自分の力で意味を推測してから、下のボックスを開きながら理解を深めていきましょう。
Did you know that “selfie” is an Australian word? Every country has casual words that are only used there. These words are called “slang.” Australians use many slang words. Most of them are short versions of other words and have a vowel on the end. For example, sunglasses, biscuits and umbrella become “sunnies,” “biccies” and “brolly.” They all end with “ee.” Some words end with an “oh” sound, such as “arvo” for afternoon and “muso” for musician. Words that end with “a” are common too. For example, a cup of tea is a “cuppa,” and McDonald’s is “Macca’s.” We have some original words too, such as “chockers,” which means “very full,” or “crook,” which means “sick.” “Selfie” is short for “a picture of yourself” and ends with an “ee” sound. All Australians use a variety of slang, so it is important to learn some words before going to Australia.
