どうもどうも、オーストラリアでは男性でもできて当たり前のことを日本でするとやたら女子力高いと言われて不思議に思った経験をもついちから英会話のヒカリノです。
今週の英語記事では、女子力の英訳としてよく用いられる「girl power」の英語の意味について、簡単な英語で紹介します。本日は高校レベルの単語を多く用いています。1回記事を読んでみて自分の力で意味を推測してから、下のボックスを開き、理解を深めていきましょう。
In Japan, the word “joshiryoku” is often translated as “girl power.” However, joshiryoku and girl power mean very different things.
“Girl power” is a phrase that was made popular by the pop group “Spice Girls” in the 90s. Girl power tells girls and women that they are powerful and capable. It means that they can do anything that men can do, and they don’t need a man’s help to succeed. They control their own lives.
Girl power is something every girl and woman has. They don’t have to wear makeup and nice clothes to be female, but of course, they can wear them if they want to. Girl power is about freedom.
As you can see, girl power is very different to joshiryoku.
