It is usually a stew made from minced meat and vegetables with mashed potato on top. It is cooked in an oven. In the UK, a shepherd\u2019s pie is made from lamb, and a shepherd\u2019s pie made from beef is called a cottage pie. However, in many places, both are called shepherd\u2019s pie.
